Better Out Of School Time

Safe places with caring mentors who help young people explore their interests, develop new skills and build positive peer networks.

SAY developed the BOOST initiative to help Oak Park and River Forest youth have access to safe and enriching experiences during their out-of-school-time, without cost or logistical barriers.

There is a wide array of before-and-after-school programs, and summer programs in Oak Park and River Forest. But many children and families are not able to take advantage of them.

SAY helps community partners create a structured collaboration that makes it easier for families to find out-of-school-time programs that suit their needs.

Youth Engagement Scholarship
(YES) Fund

Donate to YES

In 2017 the Oak Park - River Forest Community Foundation launched the Youth Engagement Scholarship Fund (YES Fund). Young people who live in Oak Park and River Forest are eligible to apply for scholarships that cover participation and/or equipment fees associated with enrichment opportunities.

The Oak Park Library, River Forest Library, Suburban Unity Alliance (SUA), and school social workers will identify young people who can benefit from the YES Fund, and help them apply for a scholarship. The Economy Shop will collect and allocate gently used sports equipment and other items required for participation in various enrichment activities.

The following SAY Partners support the YES Fund for children and youth from families facing financial hardship:

  • Park District of Oak Park
  • River Forest Park District
  • River Forest Community Center
  • Magical Minds Studio
  • Intuit Dance
  • School of Rock
  • Oak Park Arts LeagueOak Park Tennis Center
  • West Cook YMCA
